Religious practices and psychological well-being

According to González, Quintero, Veray, & Rosario, (2017), the topic of spirituality has profound relevance in the field of helping professions in Puerto Rico. It is necessary that clinical psychologists understand the importance and positive impact that spirituality has on the psychological well-being of Puerto Rican believers/religious and effectively attend to the needs, both psychological and spiritual, that they present (González-Rivera, 2015). For this, help professionals must consider spirituality as a protective factor for the theistic community and integrate it into the different models of well-being as a frame of reference in psychotherapy processes (Richards & Bergin, 2005; Sperry, 2011).
