Voluntary Chaplain Corps
Statement of Reasons for Law No. 168 of 2012 (Excerpt):
Recognizing the importance of offering voluntary counseling and emotional and spiritual care services to citizens in emergency situations, natural disasters and crises , this Legislative Assembly deems it necessary to create the Voluntary Corps of Chaplains of the Government of Puerto Rico, which will be attached to the State Agency for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration. In this way, we will have an official organization that facilitates alliances between different faith-based entities, in order to provide emotional and spiritual care in situations, incidents or events at the local, state and federal levels that warrant it.
